Students take inspiration from the solutions presented to propose ideas for leading their community to a better future. It has been designed to guide students through a project where they will consolidate and extend learning from any of the other lessons in the 2040 units.

In this lesson, students will be immersed in, and connect with, the documentary film 2040, focusing on the topic of sustainability and renewable energy. Students begin by exploring the concept of sustainability and work in groups to investigate different types of renewable energy and energy efficiency practices. Students create a presentation and scientific poster to explain which type of renewable energy or which energy efficiency practices would be best suited to their area.

In this lesson, students will be immersed in, and connect with, the documentary film 2040, focusing on the topic of renewable energy. Students begin by exploring what we mean by renewable and non-renewable resources, and investigate a range of resources, classifying them as either renewable or non-renewable based on their regeneration rates. Students explore how understanding the benefits of renewable energy can improve and empower communities by looking at and comparing a range of community energy projects.

In this lesson, students will be immersed in, and connect with, the documentary film 2040, focusing on the topic of food chains and food webs. Students begin by completing a Flipped Classroom preparation activity to introduce the topics of food chains and food webs. Students then explore how seaweed farming could improve marine food webs as well as benefit human populations. Finally, students are asked to think about what other actions humans can take to improve marine food webs and to communicate their ideas through a poster or infographic.

In this lesson, students will be immersed in, and connect with, the documentary film 2040, focusing on the topic of climate change. Students are introduced to this lesson by participating in a guided discussion around a clip from 2040. They then explore how actions for climate change can be categorized as either carbon reduction actions or carbon sequestration actions, before looking at examples of each from the 2040 documentary.

In this lesson, students will be immersed in, and connect with, the documentary film 2040, focusing on the topic of climate change. Students are introduced to some of the key terms around climate change and then work in groups to investigate a few of the key contributing factors to climate change such as energy, food, or transport. Working collaboratively, students formulate a question that could be addressed through an experiment or fieldwork, and develop a plan and justification for this experiment/fieldwork idea.
